Reward (play)
One can distinguish two great types of rewards allotted to the plays.
Contest of creators of plays
Certain rewards are reserved to the authors of new handsets, generally with the state of model or desktop publishing. One speaks then generally about contest more than of price. It is in fact the rule and the idea which are rewarded. The goal of these rewards is to make it possible to the authors to be located by the editors. Sometimes, a price in cash is allotted, which is appreciated by the authors who often invested important sums to produce their models.
Prices allotted to the published plays
Other rewards are reserved for the plays published. These rewards takes the form of decreed prices, often at the time of a festival, by a made up jury specialists or the public which tested the plays. They are allotted to the play, i.e. as much with the author that with the illustrator, the editor and in a general way to all those which took part in the publication of the play. The rewards are generally allotted to the plays left during the year, or all at least for a base period. According to the type of price, one takes into account the date of first international or national publication.
Certain rewards are very appraisals, like the Spiel of Jahres (play of the year) in Germany. In France, there existed two rewards, the Jeu of the year and the As of Gold. The two organizations decided to amalgamate, which gives more weight to the nominations and the decreed price.
Sometimes, only one price is decreed, with a list of nominated. This with the advantage of putting full fires on a play and of not dispersing the communication. The disadvantage is that often amounts privileging a type of play by excluding from the supreme title the plays for children or the plays with two, for example.
Sometimes, the responsible organization does not decree a price but a list of recommendations. It is for example the case of the Sceau of excellence Option consumers allotted to French Canada.
Sometimes, of the prices are allotted by criteria: plays for children, families, two players, abstracted,…
It is also necessary to mention certain prices decreed by the professional employers' federations, like the Grand Prix of the Toy or the Concours Lépine. These prices are allotted by jurys which generally do not have time to test the plays and their value is very disputed.
For an author or an editor, the best reward remains however the massive purchase of their play by the public!
