Rewalsar
Rawalsar (also écrit' Rewalsar' ) is a city and a Nagar panchayat of the District of Mandi in India in the State and the territories of India of the Himachal Pradesh.
Demography
According to the census of 2001 of India, Rawalsar has a population of 1369. The men constitute 54% of the population and the women 46%. Rawalsar has an average rate of elimination of illiteracy of 76%, higher than the national average of 59,5%: masculine 78%, and female 73%. In Rawalsar, 12% of the population have less than 6 years.
Geography
Rawalsar is localized at an altitude of 1360 m above the sea level. It is connected to Mandi by a motor-road and is to approximately 25 km of Mandi. Located in the southern part of the belt the Himalayas, the winters with Rawalsar can freeze, whereas the summers are generally pleasant.
Religion
Rawalsar is crowned with the members of three major religions - Hindouisme, Bouddhisme and Sikhisme.
Hindouism
Seven mythological lakes associated with the Pândava S of Mahabharata are localized above Rawalsar. Also associated with Rawalsar are the legends of the Lord Shiva and Lomas Rishi. There is also a famous temple of Krishna in the city.
Sikhism
The tenth Guru of the sikhs, Gourou Gobind Singh visited Rawalsar to consult with the kings of the states of the Hill seeking a support against Aurangzeb. It remained in Rawalsar one month. Rajah Joginder SEN of Mandi built a Gurdwârâ in Rawalsar in 1930 to commemorate the visit of the Guru. The places is partiularly sacred to Namdhari Sikhs due to its mention in Sau Sakhi ace has sanctuary.
Buddhism
The famous Lake Rawalsar is associated with Padmasambhava, a buddhist monk. According to a legend, king de Mandi wanted burned alive Padmasambhava after the rumors which the monk had flirté with the girl of the king. The lake appeared in the place where the monk was burned and Padmasambhava appeared on a Lotus in the middle of the lake. The king, repenting his actions, marria his/her daughter with Padmasambhava. It was of Rawalsar that Padmasambhava went to the Tibet répendre Buddhism Mahayana.The Foire of Tsechu was held in Rawalsar in 2004 to commemorate the birthday of Padmasambhava. The fair was inaugurated by the Dalai Lama in the presence of Orgyen Trinley Dorje, the 17th Karmapa, and 50.000 Buddhist pilgrims assisted to with it. To fair was held after has gap off 12 years.
There are other versions of the legend according to which the lake associated with the birth with Padmasambhava was localized with the Pakistan or in Afghanistan. However, Rawalsar is known like a place crowned for Buddhists and two monastries the Drikung Kadyud Gompa and Tso-Pema Ogyen Heru-kai Nyingmapa Gompa are here localized.
The Lake Rawalsar
The lake around which the town of Rawalsar is established has a maximum depth of 6,5 meters. The lake is oligotrophic of nature. It rectangular of form, with collecting the sector located at its north and the west.
