Reverberation (acoustic)

See also: Reverberation

The reverberation (" réverb ") sound effect is a aiming reproducing the environment of a more or less vast place, room with the Cathédrale and at giving a certain presence to a sound. The reverberation is generally created starting from a complex anamalgame of echo S (called " reflection s"), making the effect homogeneous and diffuse and whose evolution in the Temps is modulated according to the Fréquence and of the specific adjustments.

Various types

Reverberation with spring

(also known as " with line with retard")

The first with being appeared and simplest to produce: it is about one or more Ressort S flexible with nonjointed whorls of ten centimetres approximately, bandaged in the air-gap of a Aimant coupled to two winds S. the aimant+ressort+bobines unit is called transducer. The goal of the maneuvre is to collect the signal of the level " line" amplifying , to feed the first reel of the transducer. This reel will create a Magnetic field which will make vibrate the spring (via the Aimant). This spring then will proportionally deteriorate the magnetic field of the magnet to the running of entry, but with a certain delay. This signal is collected by the second reel and is more or less reinjected in the circuit (via the Potentiomètre " réverb"), at the same place where it had collected. Signal makes thus several loops (without Larsen since the reinjected signal is weaker than the original), creating the effect of reverberation.

Numerical reverberation

The principle is to sample the signal, the to digitize, to numerically treat it via a dedicated Processeur, then to recreate it in form Analogique (chain EDGE/DSP/CNA). The force of the numerical réverb is of being able to be very finely regulated.

Principal adjustments

Several types of adjustments exist for a réverb Numérique:
  • Delay: Time enters the beginning of the sound and the beginning of the reverb.
  • Diffusion: That exploits the feeling of diffusion of the reverb.
  • Density: as its name indicates it cheek on the density of the reverb, it is necessary to play with this parameter to hear the difference.
  • Early Reflections: regulate the importance of the first reflections. Influence much the sound
  • Tonalité: attenuate the acute ones/reinforces the low registers when the Potentiomètre is turned on the left, and vice versa
  • Niveau: (also called wet/dry balances) indicates the proportion of reverberation to include in the basic signal.
Rarer adjustments
  • Hight ratio: Determine if the reverb acts much in the high frequencies.
  • Low ratio: Determine if the reverb acts much in the low frequencies.
  • LPF: Frequencies from which the high frequencies are cut in the reverb (filter cut-high).
  • HPF: Frequencies to be left which the low frequencies are cut in the reverb (filter cut-low).
