Revard mount

The mount Revard belongs to the last septentrional buttresses of the Massif of the Wallows, in Savoy, which dominates from Aix area (Aix-the-Baths) and the Lac of Le Bourget. Foot-note: the solid mass culminates in the North-East of the view-point to the Tower of the Angle, with 1.563 meters.

The view-point, to 1.537 meters, offers a sight on the valley of Le Bourget and the Massif of Mont Blanc. This panoramic site, appreciated as of XVIIIe and XIXe centuries, was equipped for the period with the Industrial revolution (1892) with an access by railway to toothed rack (system with double toothed rack of Swiss engineer Abt). On the basis of Aix-the-Baths, this train stopped at the stations of Mouxy, Pugny-Chatenod, Pré Jappert (near of Trévignin) and the summit station of Revard. Nowadays, the layout comprising some beautiful works of art (a viaduct curves with five arches, two tunnels…) is used for the walk with foot or in VTT (departure above Véniper on the road leading to the station since Aix-the-Baths). The infrastructure of the train was dismounted in 1937. The train with toothed rack of Revard, become insufficient vis-a-vis the success of the ski on the Revard Mount, as from 1935, was doubled by an active cable car of Mentens (near to Mouxy) in Revard. During a time, this cable car was longest of the world in only one range (not of intermediate pylon!). The road was right of the cable car which stopped after the season of winter 1968/69. There remain nothing any more but the vestiges of the stations of departure in Mouxy and arrival on the plate, beside a panoramic brewery dating from construction. The cables and cabins were deposited in 1977! On the plate of Revard the practice of the winter sports developed on the field Savoy Grand Revard, around the stations of the Revard , of Féclaz (the Deserts) and of Saint-François-of-Dirty. As of 1908, the station of Revard becomes the first French ski station. Gradually, it will be equipped with all the equipment necessary to the winter sports: tracks, ski lifts, skating rink of 4.000m ² lit, tracks of bobsleigh and toboggan, also enlightened springboards of jump the night and a boxing ring of curling. The station is had a presentiment of in 1924 to receive the first Winter Olympics of 1924, which, finally, will be done with Chamonix.

Many marked out ways exist (to get information near the tourist office of Aix-the-Baths or the House of Revard), in particular the path of the peaks at the beginning of the view-point (not to be borrowed in winter…), and the path of the old way of the toothed rack. Since the summer 2006, a path " rando gas of France" was opened and allows the descent in VTT to the swimming pool of Aix (count approximately 4 hours). The rise is ensured in the bus accommodating your bicycle (4 shuttles at the beginning of Aix-the-Baths) and of the hirings of bicycle of descent are possible on the plate.

Revard is equipped with two springboards of take-off for the Deltaplane S and the Parapente S, of which is private (it belongs to the local school). The springboard of the observatory (in the north of the summit brewery) is official. Many clubs and individual are found there (departure cliff). Other departures exist side Féclaz and the slopes of the Cross of the shepherds are often used like slopes school.

The winter, the plate of Revard lends itself to, the skiing on piste winter sports, but especially ski touring (the " large plate nordique" is the greatest field of France).
