Return of the sun celebrates
In Bossekop, small center of population located on the edge of the sea, in Lapland and beyond the polar circle, the disc of the sun, starting from November 17th, remains completely invisible.
During some time, a twilight gleam still illuminates about midday, the southernmost contour of the horizon, and spreads a doubtful clearness; but while approaching the 21 December, this gleam even disappears. It reappears in the beginning of January, and grows per degrees. Lastly, on January 31st, the solar disk starts again to be shown slightly.
It projects a first ray which was accommodated, at the XIXe century, by the universal acclamations of the population placed at the windows or on the heights, to greet the beneficial star whose absence had better done to feel all the price. This day, any work was suspended , one was pleased, one danced, one drank with the resurrection of the sun, and one considered the bets made on the clocks which, not having been regulated since 2 months and half, had been able to get out of order more or less.
