Retsina

(Or rather it) the retsina (in Greek η ρετσίνα), or retsina is a wine produced in Greece and considered as a typical speciality of the country.

It is a white or rosy wine light containing Cépage Savatiano in which is added resin of pine during fermentation. The resin stabilizes the wine, enabling him to better resist heat. It gives him a particular taste, rather pharmaceutical, which with the first contact disorientates the consumer not informed. Best the retsina is produced in Attique, it must be drunk very fresh.

It is thought that the origin of this receipt would come from ancient times when the sealing of the Amphore S with wine was ensured by an internal resin white-washing. The taste given to the wine would have been then reproduced by gustatory practice. It will be noted that at the time antique, the wine was practically always added with spices and various grasses intended for the to aromatize.
