Retonfey is a common French located in the department of the the Moselle in Lorraine.

Name of the commune

The name of the village would certainly come from the name “Rito” and Latin Fagetum , synonymous with hêtraie. The toponym received quantity of modifications:

Economy

The commune shelters many small and medium-size companies. It has an artisanal zone which still makes it possible to accommodate new activities.

Fascé of gold and coped azure of eight parts of azure.
The horizontal bands of gold and azure are the weapons of the High-Way, part of the Metz-native Country to which Retonfey belonged. The cap of azure, symbol of the coat of Martin Saint who is the owner of the parish.

Places and monuments

  • the church Saint Martin's day: the building as it is presented today was built in 1740. Its Bell-tower date of the XII sièce and its nave of 1769. Its frontage was altered in 1882.
  • In the cemetery of the church is fall it from Gédéon Charles Blaise de Rozérieulles, Mousquetaire of the king, it made build the castle of Retonfey in 1792, like that of Ernest Auricoste de Lazarque.

  • War memorial: near to the town hall, a monument in the honor of those which lost the life for our freedom was inaugurated on May 8th, 2002. The monument, carrying a message of peace, was carved by Gaby Solomon in a Pierre de Jaumont of three tons. It carries four doves, two on each face, with shooting of wing to the top of a terrestrial sphere. On the base is registered voter “Remember”.
  • the “lion”: monument of the 1st German army corps set up in remembering the hundreds of Prussian losses during the head office of Metz in 1870. Located at the limit of the communal banns of Retonfey and Noisseville, it is classified among the Historic buildings. The battles of Noisseville took place the August 31st and September 1st, 1870.
  • the town hall: building going back to 1600 which was used as Presbytère until 1986.
  • Foyer: built on the old laundrette on August 23rd, 1858 builds.
  • blessed Cave: set up by Louis To track, his children and of voluntary, on October 22nd, 1961. Mr. Pister had made wish build this édificie if it left living second world war.
