It is during its stay downtown that it is convened with the court in order to exert there its duty of sworn. What was to be only one to have civic, takes a completely unexpected turning for Nekhlioudov. Among the defendants its first love, beautiful Maslova appears. Forsaken young love because considered to be ashamed, Maslova had to flee the house of aunts de Neklioudov at which her place worked as a servant in order to be able to provide the needs of their child. This one death born, Maslova becomes holder of the yellow chart to survive.

Shown homicide with premeditation, it is in Neklioudov to judge it. It will be made a duty leave it this bad master key. Vis-a-vis a parody of court, ridiculous magistrates (because, it should be acknowledged, a little too human), of young and inexperienced lawyers and the pleas seeming surrealist, Maslova is found in front of an emptied justice of all its direction. However, with the great relief of Neklioudov, nonthe places appears obvious with sworn. Acquitement seems gained, so much so that he forgets some to register on deliberated the " without préméditation". The judgment is given, Maslova is condemned to the bagne in Siberia. Nekhlioudov consequently all will try to repurchase its fault and to join again the contact with it.

Thus it will have to open the eyes on spiritual misery of the world in which it lived hitherto, of the laxism of the high-ranking magistrates who make trail the procedure of appeal, of nonthe absolute direction of the prison universe. Maslova it even will end up making use deliberately of this poor Nekhlioudov, knowing pertinently which it will never forgive him what it made him. Atrocious disillusions on the human condition in shot down hopes, our hero will end up finding his answer, not in the men, but in only one. Its resurrection will pass by the meeting of the Christ, who, in only one night of reading, will give him a new point of view on the existence.

Study succinte

Resurrection, written in 1899, is a work gathering the majority of the arguments of the philosophy of Tolstoï. With semi way between " The war and the paix" and " the sonata with Kreutzer" , opposition of the nature of human to the company which it created for itself forever be also strong only in this work. The main character, who is not without pointing out prince Bezoukhov, is one cannot more Tolstoïen. Impresses of a life of pleasure, the hour came for him from the repentence. Unfortunately here, that Ci will take unexpected turnings.

For Tolstoï as for Nietszche, " so that the branches of the tree reach the heights, its roots must anchor in the darkest and deep grounds ". Indeed, by the parody of company and of the feelings that he proposes to us, he is not unfounded to bring Tolstoï closer to the nihilist movement.

The love affair, sempiternal alternative with happiness, as is always denatured by the context in which it appears. Nekhlioudov rejects the " beautiful partis" high society and Maslova do not hope to marry with the man who could change the life to him. Thesis besides largely constant in the Sonata in Kreutzer.

The philosophy of the Carpe Diem is largely put at evil (once in a while does no harm, Kouraguine, god your heart has), Tolstoï considers it regrettable that we are not " … solved to live only for our own happiness " (see the famous parabola of the vine grower, at the time of the resurrection of Nekhlioudov).

The intention of the existence would go beyond our disproportionate impulses (to the direction rabelaisien) and, without to fall into the bosom from any form from spiritual community, would be dedicated to our intellectual blooming, the comprehension of our similar and the good sense. For Pierre Bezoukhov, the illumination comes from a simple captive mujik, it ends up devoting its life to the release of its people (a first at the time of the exit of the war and peace) and to the reading without slackening (" no work will see its incomplete reading ").

The Tolstoïenne approach of the Capacity (in the broad sense) is summarized in these some terms drawn from the war and peace " the man of being able is comparable with the sailor taken in the storm, it with the illusion to choose its destination but remains abused by the currents of the history " or quotation " celebrates it; the heart of the kings is in the hand of God " because as historical as were their decisions, they were not conditioned of it by their entourage as well as the people having preceded them.

It is this disrespectful will with regard to any form of community on behalf of Tolstoï which seems to be one of the reasons for which it was rejected Christian church after the publication of its Résurrection work.
