Restuffing with straw

The restuffing with straw of seats, Chair S, Fauteuil S… consists in taking straw or another material to remake the part of the object where one assoit (base).

The craftsman thus acts as three stages:

to remove undesirable material
to choose new material according to constraints of style and esthetics, solidity, cost… It is often of the straw of the marshes or lêche , of the straw of rye treated or gilded straw , of the Carex, the sheets of corn, the scirpe or snap ring of the chaisiers covered or not with straw. The materials are of more or less large section, more or less tightened and solid.
to place new material on the base of the seat by forming a rembourage then the visible external part, sometimes with a drawing formed by bits of different colors.
