Rest mass
The theory of relativity taught us that the matter represents immense reserves of energy and that energy represents matter” (Einstein). In microphysics, Mass and energy are equivalent.
The rest mass or clean mass of a corpuscle is the energy which remains to him when its kinetic energy tends towards zero. This does not apply however when the body is of null mass, like the photon for example, because in case there does not exist Référentiel or the particle is at rest according to the laws of the restricted Relativité.
In the standard model of the Physical rest masses of the elementary particles are parameters observed in experiments. There does not exist yet of microscopic model predicting the mass of all the elementary particles.
