Resistance (component)

See also: Resistance

A resistance is a component electronic or electric whose main feature is to oppose a more or less large resistance (measured in Ohm S) to the circulation of the Electric current.

It is by Métonymie that the word “resistance”, which indicates before a a whole physical property , came from there to as indicate a type of component as some prefer to call a “resistant Dipôle”. One sometimes suggested, for the teaching of the Physique, in particular in the small classes, to use the term “resistor” or the Anglicisme “resistor” (of the word resistor which, in English, indicates this type of component), or the expression “ohmic Conducteur”.

Technology

Resistances are carried out so as to approach in a very satisfactory way the Loi of Ohm in a broad beach of use.
  • resistances of low power in lower part of 1 Watt are generally resistors film of Carbone on a support of Céramique.
  • For the higher powers , the technique of the resistant wire rolled up on a ceramics body is often used.
  • For the very strong powers, one can use a technology known as of “liquid resistances” consisting in running the current on a aqueous Solution of Cuivre.

Location

The value of the resistors film standard is usually indicated on the component in the form of rings of colors. The code is defined by it by the standard CEI 60757. To consult the table of the Code of designation of colors .

Marking of resistances CMS

Until the size 0603

Resistances CMS are marked of a numeric digital code of three or four figure.
  • With marking with four digits, the three first represent the value, the fourth is the multiplier in power of ten; for the values lower than 100 the position of the " virgule" is represented by letter R.
  • With marking with three digits, the two first represent the value, the third is the multiplier in power of ten; for the values lower than 10 the position of the " virgule" is represented by letter R.

Cut (0603)

There exists another type of marking, called " EIA-96". It uses two digits for the value and a letter for the multiplier, according to the correspondences below.
