Reserved seats (Afghanistan)

Loya Jirga of 2002

Within the Loya Jirga of 2002, on a total exceeding 1.551 delegated, there was
  • 100 seats reserved to the women
  • 2 representatives of the Hindus and 2 of Sikhs
  • 25 seats reserved to the nomads
  • 100 seats reserved for the diaspora (40 Pakistan, 30 Iran, 30 rest of the world including 1 France), including 25 reserved to the women
  • 6 seats reserved to the displaced persons of the interior

Constituent Loya Jirga of 2003

The article 5.e) of the order in Council of the July 15th 2003 provides that in Loya Jirga constituent, made up of 500 members,
  • the Hindus and Sikhs elect three representatives
  • the women elect two representing by province.
  • the refugees in Iran and in Pakistan elect 24 members through " broad consultations"
  • the displaced persons of the interior in the provinces of Kandahar, Herat and Helmand take part in provincial meetings and elect six members on the whole
  • Kuchis meet in places indicated in consultation with their leaders and elect 9 members " after broad consultations"

Wolesi Jirga of 2005

The electoral legislation of application for the legislative elections of the September 18th 2005 in Afghanistan provides that on the 249 seats of the Wolesi Jirga (Room of the people) 10 are reserved for the wandering community of the Kuchis, among which 68 stood as a candidates. On the whole, 68 seats are reserved to the women, including 3 among the seats kuchis.
