Reseda raiponce

The reseda raiponce ( Reseda phyteuma L.) is small a Plante pertaining to the kind Reseda and to the family of the Résédacées, frequent in the south of Europe, in particular in the areas the Mediterranean. Like all the resedas, its Fleur S is very small. They have indented white petals surrounding of many cheesecloth S with Anthère S orange very developed. Two subspecies are counted:

  • subsp. collina (Müller Arg.) Beats. in Beats. & Trabut, 1888
  • subsp. phyteuma

Description

Ecology and habitat

Annual or bi-annual plant attends in the west of the Mediterranean basin (North Africa, Iberian peninsula, south of France, Italy), rarer elsewhere. One can find it in mountain (the Alps of the South) up to 1600 meters. It pushes especially in cultivated in the past cultures or waste lands (vines and orchards, market gardenings), forming important colonies sometimes. Preference for the basic or neutral grounds.

General and vegetative morphology

Rather low herbaceous plant (from 10 to 30 cm generally), frequently ramified at the base, hairy stem. The Feuille S are especially basal. They are in general whole, with some irregularly lobed (in particular caulinaires), lengthened and spatulées sheets.

Floral morphology

Inflorescence in bearing Racème set up few flowers compared to other resedas. Each flower is carried by a rather long pedicel. Chalice with five sepals, sometimes six, oblong and growing in the course of flowering. Corolla to five or six white petals divided into thin straps. Many cheesecloths (16 to 18) with orange or pink anthères very prominent. Ovary supère with three styles.

Fruit and seeds

The Fruit S are capsule S opened, of an irregular, reinflated, rather large and inclined oval (contrary to the majority of the other resedas whose capsules are more or less set up).
