Research laboratory in data processing
The Research laboratory in data processing or LRI is laboratories French academic of research in data processing in the Seventies with the Université of Paris XI.
At January 1st, 2004, the laboratory counted 177 members: 78 enquiring and titular teacher-researchers, 63 doctorands, 22 not-holders and 14 members of the technical personnel and administrative. The LRI consists of 10 research teams, assisted of a team of support system and network and of an administrative team. The laboratory occupies building 490 as well as other additional buildings on the campus of Orsay.
Budget
The LRI is a laboratory of the Université Paris-XI associated with CNRS as a mixed unit of research (UMR 8623). The titular personnel is resulting from these two organizations (14 researchers and 10 ITAs CNRS, 64 teacher-researchers and 4 IATOS Université Paris-South). The annual budget, except wages of permanent, is about 1,6M€. Less than one third of this budget comes from the basic equipments of CNRS and the university; the remainder comes from contracts and subsidies obtained by the members from the laboratory.
The LRI and research
The research topics approached by the LRI cover a broad spectrum of data processing: Algorithmic, complexity, quantum calculation, Graph theory, bases of the communications, microphone-architecture, clusters and grids of calculation, software Genius, programming, man-machine interaction, databases, systems of inference, excavation of data, training and Bio-data processing. In 2002, researchers of four teams decided to create a transverse axis on bio-data processing. This axis is from now on a team with whole share which works on fields like the training by machine and the algorithms randomized to predict relevant biological information in the genomic data.
