Republican solidarity

The republican Solidarity, association for the development of the rights and the interests of the democracy is a republican political company under the Second Republic.

History

In November 1848, republican Solidarity is created in Paris and in the departments, at the instigation in particular of Ledru-Rollin, Delescluze, Gambon, Sarrut, to support the candidature of Ledru-Rollin for the presidential election of December 1848. Gathering the mountain deputies , the directors of the republican newspapers and the local organizations, it is managed by a general advice of seventy members and is chaired by Martin Bernard, appointed the Loire. Within the direction of republican Solidarity appears a fourierist, Charles Dain.

National organization, having a central committee in Paris, committees of department, district and canton, it aims federating the democrats and at ensuring republican propaganda in campaigns rather controlled by the conservatives of the Parti the Order. Its Parisian offices are located at the 22 (a) Boulevard Saint-Denis.

At the time of the legislative of 1849, the democrat-Socialists (also called démoc-plowshares), which gathers the radical republicans and the Socialists favorable to the establishment of a “Democratic republic and social”, obtain 200 deputies; Martin Bernard is re-elected.

The June 11th 1849, preserving majority of the legislative Parliament vote the sending of a military forwarding against the Roman Republic by 361 votes against 202. A demonstration is organized the June 13rd 1849 to protest against this vote, which contravenes article 5 of the preamble to the constitution. According to him, the Republic “respects foreign nationalities, as she intends to make respect his; no war in sights of conquest undertakes, and never employs its forces against the freedom of any people”. However, this demonstration is dispersed by the troops of the general Changarnier, and repression falls down on the democrats. Martin Bernard, condemned to the deportation, manages to escape and is exiled in England.

The Court of appeal declares association illegal like “secret society” by stop of the December 3rd 1849.
