Republican party (Arménie)

The Republican party of Arménie (in Armenian Hayastani Hanrapetakan Kusaktsutyun or with the Armenian alphabet: ՀայաստանիՀանրապետականԿուսակցություն, more usually indicated by its initial HHK or ՀՀԿ) is one of the political principal parties of the Republic of Arménie.

After the legislative elections of 1999, the HHK is the party with the most deputies with the Parlement and following the formation of a coalition, the HHK names the Prime Minister. It is for this reason that Andranik Margarian, member of the HHK, is the Prime Minister in exercise since the May 12th 2000.

The legislative elections of the May 25th 2003 confirm the victory of the coalition of which HHK forms part: the party gains 23,5% of the votes and 31 seats out of 131 with the National Assembly. The legitimacy of the elections organized by the mode Kotcharian are strongly disputed by the observers of SOEC and the the Council of Europe.

The legislative ones of May 12th, 2007 see the HHK gaining 40% of the voices and the two other parties of the coalition pro-Kotcharian to obtain 35% of the voices. Two opposition parties will be represented at the Parliament: Rule of law which reached 6% of the votes and Héritage. The opposition disputed the regularity of the poll but the observers of the Communauté of the independent States, the SOEC, the Council of Europe and the European Parliament spoke about improvement compared to the preceding ones élections.,

The HHK joined the European liberal group with the the Council of Europe whose Arménie is member.
