The Republic of Altaï (Russian: Респу́бликаАлта́й) is a federal prone of the Fédération of Russia (a republic).
The republic of Altaï is a mountainous territory with the picturesque landscapes, a kind of “Russian Tibet” located at the center of Eurasia to the junction of various States, ecosystems and cultures. The capital of the republic is Gorno-Altaïsk, it is to approximately 100 km in the South of Biysk on the Transsibérien.

Geography
The republic is located at the center even Asia with the junction of the Siberian Taïga, with the steppes of Kazakhstan and the desert of the Mongolia. The forests cover approximately 25% of the territory of the republic.

Rivers and lakes
More than 20.000 tributaries extend in all the mountainous Republic, compensating for a total of more than 60.000 kilometers of value of the water ways. The largest rivers of the Republic are the Katun and the Biya, which come from the mountains and run in north. The junction of the two rivers forms thereafter the river of Ob, one of the longest rivers in Siberia, which runs in north in the Arctic Ocean.The source of the river of Biya of black is the Lac Teletskoye, more the big lake of the area located in a remote south of insulation of sector in the mountains.
