Repentigny is a city of the Quebec located in the regional Municipalité of county of the Assumption and the administrative area of Lanaudière. Located with the mouth of the River the Assumption, this city is the 12th city in importance in Quebec according to its population.

The city is twinned at the French city of Bergerac in the Périgord and of Évry.

From March 2nd to 10th 2007, the town of Repentigny and the cities neighbouring accommodated the final 42e Jeux of Quebec, the most important sports event in Quebec.

Geographical location

Repentigny is located at the north of Montreal, on banks of the Fleuve the St. Lawrence and the River the Assumption.

History

Founded in 1670 per Jean-Baptiste the Keeper, Repentigny is one of the more old cities of the great area montréalaise.

Since June 1st, 2002, the new town of Repentigny gathers the old municipalities of Repentigny and the Keeper, in the past Saint-Paul-The Ermite.

The city counts 76424 inhabitants, according to the data of the census of 2006, distributed in two districts:

  • the Keeper: 17670 hab.
