The historian Jules Michelet visited 1816 on several occasions; July 1833; 24.-27 June 1837; August 1840; 6 September 10th, 1846; 13 August 26th, 1849 this commune in which his/her mother, Constance Millet, were originating. In the People (1846), Michelet referred to his devoted aunts of Renwez: “all remarkable by the economy, the serious one, the austerity, were made to the humble maidservants of Sirs their brothers, and to suffice for their expenditure they were buried at the village. Several however, without culture and in this loneliness on the edge of wood, did not have of it less one very-fine flower of spirit. I heard of them one, quite old, which told as well as the old stories of the border Walter Scott. What was common for them, it was an extreme clearness of spirit and reasoning. ” (Paris, Hatchet-Paulin, 1846,20-21.)
