Rennequin Sualem
Rennequin Sualem (January 29th 1645 - 1708) was a master carpenter and mechanic inhabitant of Li2ege, originating in Jemeppe-on-Meuse.
About 1668, it built with Modave a hydraulic machine intended to raise to the court of the castle of the Count de Marchin, water of the Hoyoux which ran approximately 50 meters downwards.
Thereafter, it carried out according to the same principle the Machine of Marly, consisted of 14 wheels of Modave, making it possible to raise water to 163 m, supplying with water the many basins and fountains of the park of the Château of Versailles. It was named First engineer of Roy by Louis XIV and anobli. With the king, who asked him how it had had the idea of this machine, Rennequin answered him in Wallon: “ Early tuzant, lord ” (“In there reflective, lord”).
