Genealogical history
The genealogical history of Quatrebarbes and their allies is a considerable work, remained handwritten and which one knows several copies of the 18th century: two with the Castle of Sionnière, with Angers; that of the National library of France finishes at the year 1699, annotated by D' Hozier. While referring some especially to the titles analyzed by the author, one can there find and take much for the history of the families of the Maine. Mr. de Quatrebarbes was in relation to Hozier, as a bulky correspondence attests it, and with the abbot the Plowman, to which it dedicated the first book of his compilation. The second book, which deals with Quatrebarbes of Rongère, begin with these words addressed to the abbot Jean-Jacques de Longueil: I do not deny myself a desire common to all the authors who, regarding their work as an effect of their spirit, cherish them in a manner which seems to override the natural love of the children to which they gave the day. The author makes homage of the third book concerning 42 families allied to Quatrebarbes, with Jean-Claude de Préaulx, his brother-in-law. The drafting of Rene de Quatrebarbes stops about the year 1660. But several articles were briefly continued by his/her son and even by other hands, after the death of this one (1703).In the genealogical History of the House of Quatrebarbes , it is referred twice to the crusade of Mayenne. Those which make a point of clearing Jean-Baptiste de Goué, could have to conclude from that this work was completed for its principal part towards 1666, that the event mayennais of 1158 was known before Gilles Ménage (1683). However this reasoning is not worth anything. There does not exist any copy of the Genealogy of Quatrebarbes former to the 18th century and all are continued, or annotated, or interpolated until this time.
