Rene de Obaldia
Rene de Obaldia is a poet, novelist and playwright French, born the October 22nd 1918 with Hong-Kong.
Wire of a Panamanian Consul (Jose Lenient of Obaldia) and of a mother of Picardy origin (Madeleine Peuvrel), it grows in Paris where it makes his studies with the Lycée Condorcet before being mobilized in 1940. Captive fact, it is sent to the Stalag VIII C (Sagan). It is affected with the brickyard of Kransdyhernfurt on June 26th, 1940, then with a commando with Have-on-Oder, on October 6th, 1940, for a cleaning of forest.
Even at worst the moments, it kept its particular humor. Thus, during the arrest of the priest of, will have suspected of collaboration with the enemy, it says to his companions in misfortune that it wondered why the Germans also did not stop the man of the speaking clock: “with the third signal, it will be exactly…”
It was repatriated like very ill patient in 1944.
It begins its dramatic career thanks to Jean Vilar, in 1960, which gives to the popular National theater its first large part, Génousie , then with André Barsacq which creates with the Théâtre of the Workshop the Satyr of the Villette . This comedy places it at the sides of its elder, Jacques Audiberti, Ionesco, Beckett. It has been, for some 50 years, one of the authors of French theater most played on planet, and one of most international (translated into 28 languages).
He was elected with the French Academy the June 24th 1999, with the armchair 22, succeeding Julien Green.
What strikes at his place, it is a facility of astonishing writing. The parts of Obaldia are always held within a framework borrowed from the current world and on modern subjects. The comic value of its works is not any doubt. Its theater invites the spectator in another world that of the ordinary life. In Génousie for example, the author replaces the ordinary language, French, by the génousien, which is also the language of imagination, the dream and the love. He plays with the language to break up savors of them, through word games, the imitation of the most various speeches. Unbounded, it connects the reports/ratios of characters and the situations abracadabrants, with always a bottom of tenderness.
“The clean mark of Rene de Obaldia is humor cocasse” (T. Morimoto)
“The laughter, it is to live, or at least to try to exist” (R. of Obaldia).
