Rene Sopa

Rene Sopa (born the September 19th 1961 with Saint-Etienne) is a player of Accordéon and Jazz French.

Biography

His/her parents came from Faro in the Algarve to the Portugal with his/her Roland brother 3 year old his groin. His/her father is mason and his mother dressmaker. Whereas it is three years old, they are established with the Cannet in the the Alpes-Maritimes, and then with Cannes Bocca or is born his/her Michele sister, 5 years her junior. At 9 years his/her friend schoolmate and neighbor introduces Lucien Galliano to him with whom it takes courses of accordion. His/her cousin Alvaro Carminho and Mario which remain in Portugal also play of the accordion in the folk ranches. Each years, during its holidays in Portugal, he listens to play his Alvaro cousin of the Coridinhos (Portuguese pieces). A few years later they will play together.

Lucien teaches the Solfège and the accordion and the repertory Musette to him. He also starts to play of ear the known airs of the Années 1970. They gains the first contests of the area and Lucien makes him listen to Joss Baselli, Gus Viseur, André Astier and Of course of the cassettes of Richard and Art Vandam. At 16 years it starts to improvise on the accordion, forms a trio to animate a few evenings and plays in the Portuguese folk ranch of Cannes the bocca. By listening to discs of Jazz like Lionel Hampton, Smart Coréa or Carlos Santana, his play is refined gradually. In 1979 it begins low chromatics and gains the trophy of the young accordionist with Télé Monte Carlo, chaired by Joss Baselli, which will make it pass 3 times in its emission the world of the accordion diffused by TF1. It is also beater and accordionist in the Arpège orchestra of Grasse and is registered with the national academy of Nice or there will remain 4 years there to study the percussions.

He works the traditional repertory like Solotarev and Bach and gains in Paris the finales of the contests UNAF (1979) of superior category and the ACF in 1981. He practices the improvisation the every day while playing on discs of jazz. It is retained to represent France with the world trophy in 1982 and 1983 but will have to give up 2 times for respiratory problems.

With 25 solved years and these problems, it decides not to continue the intenationaux contests which requires much work and the imposed pieces are not with its taste. In any event in fact the jazz is appropriate to him best for its freedom and its meetings. It will play of 1987 with 1991 in the two larger dance halls of the Riviera to earn its living of artist. 1993 is the year when it will be implied in its compositions and will record its first CD ( El ritmo LED ground ). It occurs in 1995 and 1996 with the Jazz festival of Nice as well as the clubs and rooms of Nice. After the death of his father in 1997 he plays very little. He takes again only the following year to compose it.

He goes up to Paris in 1999 where he meets the young Belgian violonist Alexandre Cavalière. Together they will take part in the most prestigious festivals French and foreign with musicians such as Angelo Debarre, Dorado and Sanson Smith and Christian Escoudé.

In 2003 it leaves its fourth album Sandunga at Harmonia Mundi. It records in 2005 with Strasbourg (cradle of the young guitarists manouches) a disc with Dino Mehrstein. 2006 mark its association with the organist Stéfan Patry presented by his/her friend Alain Bois. Hammondéon was born from this union which gathers also François Morin (music) with the battery and Jacquot Largent (ex " Sixun") with the percussions.
