Rene Quillivic , born the April 30th 1925 with Carpentras, is a engraver French, known in particular to have engraved more than 250 postage stamps since 1970.

Biography

Wire of the sculptor and engraver Rene Quillivic and of a mother painter, it makes his studies with the École of the fine arts of Paris, in 1947. It there learns engraving, and discovers that of the postage stamps to the workshop of Robert Cami, like that of the Médaille S in that of Henri Dropsy. In 1948, it carries out Île of Center , its first medal for the Monnaie of Paris. It also follows the teaching of the painter Fernand Leger, whom it meets in 1948.

Second large Price of Rome of engraving in Copper-plate engraving in 1950, Albert Decaris advises to him to be boarder of the Casa of Velázquez to Madrid, of 1952 to 1954. Decaris, then member of the jury of the price of Rome, judges that this school is too traditional compared to the first works of Quillivic.

After this stay in Spain and during the years 1960-1970, he saw his arts. He creates medals for the Currency of Paris of 1962 to 1984. He also devotes himself to monumental architecture before the economic crisis of the years 1970 do not slow down this activity.

Thinking of becoming model maker and draftsman of stamps rather than engraver of also small drawing, Quillivic presents to the seat postal and telecommunications authorities, Boulevard Brown in Paris, with two models of postage stamps of France. It makes a success of a test of engraving of one model to the effigy of Marc Chagall. It engraves its first postage stamp emitted in 1970 for Monaco. Invited with the philatelic Living room of autumn since 1969 thanks to this stamp, it gains the price Jean Goujon of engraving. He is engaged with the Research department of the stations and telecommunications of overseas (BEPTOM) where the engraver Jean Miermont takes it under his wing. In 1973, using a stay with the Harbor, it draws models for possible a first stamp of France on the lock François I {{er}}. He sees himself asking to engrave one of them, stage usually meaning the emission of stamp. However, a high-civil servant of the ministry for the Stations prefers a drawing and an engraving of another artist: Pierre Gandon does not accept the mission, Pierre Forget if but without knowing that an engraving is already ready. The following year, is emitted its first stamp of France on Saint-Nicolas-of-Port.

During its philatelic career, he prefers to engrave only his drawings, estimating that he expresses his art through the two units.

Elected official member of the Academy of the fine arts in section IV of engraving, it sits starting from October 18th, 1995 at the armchair occupied by Oscar Roty, creator of the Semeuse, then by Albert Jacquemin. It is him which draws and serious the stamp of the bicentenary of the Institut of France, emitted in 1995.

Among its personal works, it illustrates engraving of the poems which it composes.

He is married with the artist Claudine Béréchel, born in 1925. His/her son Armel and it created his sword of member of the Institute.
