Rene Nelli

Rene Nelli (° the February 20th 1906 with Carcassonne - † the March 11th 1982 with Carcassonne)

Arts doctor, teaching with the University of Toulouse, poet, essay writer, hermetist, Rene Nelli is especially known for his work on the culture occitane and the Catharisme.

In the years 1928-1930, and until in 1950, Rene Nelli was very dependant with the poet Joe Bousquet and took at its sides an active share with the development of the Mediterranean surrealism . This movement developed then, a little in margin of Parisian surrealism, in Marseilles in the Books of the South, and in Carcassonne around the Chantiers review.

It directed the review of southernmost ethnology Folklore and played a big role with regard to the knowledge of the culture occitane, in particular out of Co-flux in 1946, with Toulouse, the Institut of studies occitanes .

It devoted many works to the Catharisme. It founded also the National center of studies cathares which today bears its name.

Like Fernand Niel, and much of others, it took its first steps in the study of the catharism by attending Déodat Roché.
