Rene Lefeuvre

Rene Lefeuvre , editor and militant Marxist, born in 1902 and died in 1988.

Rene Lefeuvre becomes apprentice mason at the 16 years age. To escape the Unemployment caused by the consequences from the crisis from 1929, it changes trade and becomes corrector.

Marxist, it attends the militant mediums Socialiste S and Communiste S, but is opposed radically to the Stalinisme and the Réformisme. From 1933, it directs the review Masses , re-examined political and cultural Marxist. Masses will exist under its direction of 1933 with 1946 (with interruptions).

Initially member of the democratic communist Circle of Boris Souvarine, it adheres in 1934 to SFIO and creates there a transitory group Luxembourgiste, the " group Spartacus". He takes part in the left wing of SFIO in the years previous the Popular front. He also takes part in the creation of the tendency “Gauche revolutionist” of Marceau Pivert, with which he ensures the direction of the semi-monthly bulletin of the current. He makes party of the thousands of excluded from the congress of the SFIO of June 1938, and takes part in the foundation of the working Socialist party and peasant (PSOP).

He founds the publication Spartacus, first of all in the form of a review in 1934, then starting from 1936 of “monthly books”, to publish texts " Marxists non-dogmatiques" little known and often French news. Becoming independent editor with the passing of years, it directs what became the editions Spartacus. Will be thus published texts of Rosa Luxemburg, Anton Pannekoek, Hermann Gorter

Lefeuvre also publishes a work that he wrote, the Policy communist (line and turnings) , and written many forewords. From December 1975, it publishes in supplement in the Spartacus Books a review ( Spartacus, socialism and freedom ) taking more into account topical questions.

It will continue until its death its work of edition, “for socialism and freedom”.
