Rene Lacoste
Rene Lacoste (known as the Crocodile , or the Alligator ), born with Paris the July 2nd 1904 and deceased with Saint-Jean-with-Luz with the Pays Basque the October 12th 1996 was a champion of Tennis French.
One of the “Four Musketeers” of the Tennis French who gained the Coupe Davis for the France of 1927 with 1932, Rene Lacoste is to have succeeded first, quite front Yannick Noah, as well its career of player as his professional reconversion… not as a singer but like designer : its shirts Lacoste almost became a common noun in the world of the mode and the ready-made clothes. It was with its death, the October 12th 1996, the last from the “Four”, having thus had time to see its successor with the Porte of Auteuil, and, especially, the French victory vis-a-vis the team of Pete Sampras at the time of the Coupe Davis 1991.
Rene Lacoste was also a large inventor. Among his inventions one in particular counts, in 1963, the first racket of tennis out of steel: a revolution in the field of the tennis which blamed the supremacy of the racket out of wooden and opened the way at the models of today. This racket gained 46 titles of tournaments of the Large Slam of 1966 to 1978, distributed to the United States by WILSON, it was used in particular by Jimmy Connors and Billie Jean King.
It was appointed officer of the Légion of honor in 1977, and honorary president of FFT.
