Rene Jalbert

Rene Marc Jalbert C.V (1921 - January 21st, 1996) was the Sergent of weapons to the National Assembly of Quebec. It is known for its heroic gestures at the time of the taking of hostages carried out by the terrorist Denis Lortie, who wanted to assassinate the Prime Minister.

Rene Jalbert negotiated during a few hours with Lortie, which finally returned the weapons. Its courage caused the admiration of all. It was decorated with the Médaille of the National Assembly in 1984.

For his heroic act, Rene Jalbert receives:

  • the Order of Midsummer's Day.
  • the Medal of the heroes (in the United States)
  • the Cross of valiancy (the highest reward for bravery in Canada)

Mr. Jalbert had been useful during the Second world war, the Guerre of Korea, and taken part in the gripping forces of peace with Cyprus, was eleven years sergeant of weapons to the National Assembly.

He is deceased the January 21st 1996 at the 74 years age of a generalized cancer, leaving in mourning his wife Nanette Jalbert and his children.

He was friendly with the pharmacist Louis-Philippe Demers.
