Rene II of Rohan
Rene II of Rohan , 20th Viscount of the same place, is the father of Henri II of Rohan. He is lord of Blain where is born his/her son.
He is the successor of Henri Ier de Rohan, died without leaving posterity. He was a man austere and right, considered his enemies, liked his, one says. Its life was short: he died in La Rochelle at 36 years. He had married Catherine de Parthenay of the Park-Soubise in Low-Poitou.
Catherine, after the death of her husband, left Blain and came instead of her birth. Mercoeur, seeing the given up castle, put at it a small garrison of 25 men. When Catherine de Rohan turned over to its castle, in 1598, it found it plundered, partly burnt. It made make the repairs most necessary, and remained a few years with her children there. But it could not remain inactive. It left Blain for its residence of Low-Poitou, where it was nearer to the center of the Réforme, La Rochelle. It was it which in 1627 was the heart of the revolt of this city. Overcome, captive year Castle of Niort, it supported with dignity the consequences of its revolt. After its death (1631), its body, according to its will, was transported in Blain to be deposited there close to that of her Rene husband.
It had three girls Henriette, Anne, versed in all knowledge of the time; Catherine, married with the duke of the Double-deckers. It is it which had this proud answer to a king enthusiast of its beauty “ Lord, I am too poor to be your wife, but of too good line to be your mistress. ”
She had also two wire: Henri II of Rohan and Benjamin called Soubise.
