Rene Guilbaud
Rene Guilbaud , (Mouchamps, October 8th 1890 -? , 1928) is a Aviateur French.
He is the son of a pharmacist of 1st class which will die in 1902. Raise stock exchange, it follows studies to the College of the Roche-sur-Yon then to that of Nantes before integrating the Naval college of Brest in 1909. It is named Aspirant in October 1911. Of October 1912 to November 1916 it is Enseigne of vessel in the National marine on board the Cuirassé République . Then it passes in the maritime aviation and obtains its pilot's license. It is affected with the Air Patrols of Gascogne, based with Pallice. It is promoted Lieutenant in January 1919. In 1923, it is used for edge of the Patrie . In 1926, it tries a connection France- Madagascar in Hydravion. It fails but manages to return to France after repairs by traversing 22.000 km, carried out in 38 stages and 240 hours of vol. Promu Lieutenant commander in February 1927, Rene Guilbaud becomes the same year Aide-de-camp of the Minister for the Navy Georges Leygues. In 1928, it prepares a transatlantic raid on New York.
The June 14th 1928, Rene Guilbaud has to take part in the sides of Roald Amundsen with research of the crew of the Airship Italia of Umberto Nobile. It leaves 4 days later the coasts of Norway to the orders of the prototype seaplane Latham 47 in company of 3 French team-members, Amundsen and another Norwegian. One will lose the trace of the aircraft, until, a few months later, one finds remains and those of an emergency raft in Mer of Barents. The crew was never found. Rene Guilbaud was promoted commander on a purely posthumous basis.
In 1930, a monument with the memory of Rene Guilbaud, realization of the brothers Martel, is set up in its native village. Another monument was inaugurated in 1931 with Caudebec-in-Caux with the memory of the crew of Latham.
