Rene Grousset

Rene Grousset (September 5th 1885 with Aubais - September 12th 1952 with Paris) is a French historian, specialist in the Asia, and member of the French Academy.

Rene Grousset makes his studies with Montpellier. He is engaged during the First World War, then becomes professor of history and geography to the school of the Eastern Languages. He is part-time lecturer to the École of political sciences, conservative with the Musée of Louvre, conservative with the Musée Guimet starting from 1929, then directing of the Musée Cernuschi starting from 1933. He is secretary of the Asian Journal and member of the Council of the national museums. He is elected member of the French Academy in 1946.

L ' Epopee of the Crusades and the History of the crusades and the frank kingdom of Jerusalem , constantly republished since its death, count still today among the reference books on the Crusades, as well by their richness as by the traditional beauty of their style, like Histoire of Arménie .

Médiéviste Pierre Paddle writes of him that it “knew to be pressed on best larger orientalists of its time, whose scholarship is of a rare solidity when it is a question of establishing facts, is very directed when it is a question of interpreting them. Its angle of vision is very marked by the Utopia colonialist which had course in the years 1920-1930 when it built his opus magnum . ” ( a crusader against Saladin, Renaud de Châtillon , Beech, 2007, p. 82, N. 1.)
