Rene Girault

Rene Girault (1929-1999) is a French historian professor with the Sorbonne.

Biography

He makes his studies with the college Jean-Baptiste Say during the Occupation. Its studies in the Sorbonne lead it to the Agrégation of history in 1955. It is then named professor of college, in Mans, then in Paris with Janson de Sailly. He teaches nearly ten years in college, until 1965. In same time, he undertakes his thesis of doctorate of State under the direction of Roger Portal on the financial and economic relations between France and Russia of 1880 to 1914. The many voyages in the the USSR make of him at the same time a historian of the Russia and a historian of the International relations. Its thesis, constant in 1971, is published in 1973 (republished in 1999 pennies the French title Russian Emprunts and investments in Russia, 1887-1914 ).

During more than twenty years, he teaches the history of the contemporary international relations to the Université Paris I and the Université Paris X, before taking his retirement in 1994.
