Rene Branquart
Rene Branquart (Hennuyères on May 14th, 1871 - Braine-the-Count on June 12th, 1936 is a Belgian Politician of POB and a Walloon militant.
He is burgomaster of Braine-the-Count of 1927 with 1936. He will be appointed socialist of Soignies of 1899 with 1900, of 1902 with 1904 and finally of 1912 with 1932. He is moreover senator (elected by the provincial Council of Hainaut), of 1932 to his death.
He engages in Walloon activism as of before the end of the war, being expressed in the columns of the Walloon future (appearing in occupied country) of the 18 January 21st 1917 in this way: If Wallonia wants to triumph and obtain its right, it must be ready to formulate its wills and to impose them at the time of the return of its Masters flamands.
It was requested to support the Walloon activists acting as occupied country but refused there categorically. He resigns like Jules Destrée of the Walloon Assemblée in 1923. He also signs the Compromis Belgians agreements ratified by a great number of Flemish socialist members of Parliament and Walloons under the crook of Camille Huysmans and Jules Destrée and which precedes the agreements of 1932 on the linguistic Frontière and regional unilingism. It was supported by the Walloon federalistic union animated by Achille Chavée at the time of the legislative elections of 1929. Like Jules Destrée, Leon Troclet, he was a Walloon intransigent and in favor of the federalism as of before 1914.
