Renaud Sainsaulieu

Renaud Sainsaulieu (1935-2002) was an outstanding personality of the French Sociologie. Doctor d' arts État and Social sciences and professor of the Universities to the Institute of political studies of Paris. It directed to CNRS, the Center of Studies Sociological and founded the LSCI (Laboratory of sociology of the change of the institutions). It chaired the international association of the sociologists of French language.

Role in sociology

One can regard Renaud Sainsaulieu as one of the principal French theorists of the Sociologie of the organizations. It indeed strongly contributed to the development of this discipline in France, by taking the continuation of work of Michel Crozier within the Center of Sociology of the Organizations. It undertook many research on the culture and the identity construction of the individuals in the organizations ( identity with work, 1977 ). One him must have highlighted the function socialisatrice of the organizations and the intermediate institutions, and to have shown the fundamental role of the social identity and the individual in the course of professional life and organisational identity.

It also developed the sociology of the company bringing sociology closer to the organizations towards the sociology of work by the confrontation of the various approaches and grids of analysis: strategic, socio-technique, identity, cultural… It is in particular at the origin of the concept of Dirigeance.

It in addition chaired committees of futurology or scientists of large companies (Banque de France, Rhône-Poulenc, general Compagnie of real estate and services, Vivendi Communication….)
