Renaud IV of Castle-Gontier
Renaud IV of Castle-Gontier , lord of Castle-Gontier.
Biography
Anjou
Renaud IV had succeeded his father Alard III of Castle-Gontier towards 1152, date where it is pilot confirmation by Geoffroy Plantagenêt of the possessions of collegial of Saint-Laud. One even then finds a confirmation similar made by him, to which Berthelot assists, his/her brother, of all the gifts of its ancestors to the canons of Roë, which receive them in their confraternity. It is undoubtedly a gift of merry advent. In 1158, it attends Nyoiseau with the installation of the abbess Adélaïde of Jaille. Of 1155 with 1160, it is present at the agreement made with the Arrow in front of Henri II of England, king of England, and Thomas Becket, his chancellor, between the chapter of the Mans and Herbert Béranger about Adze-the-Berenger. The Abbaye Saint Nicolas's Day of Angers recognizes it like benefactor; it indeed yielded all its rights to him on the Genéteil, Gentiana the Jura , which one should not confuse with the Genéteil d' Azé. In 1169, he is judge with Etienne, Sénéchal of Anjou, and Renaud de Vo, seneshal of Touraine, a dispute between Ronceray and Luc de Chemazé about Villesouris.
TheHoly one
The most important event of its existence was its voyage in Ground-Holy which one can go back only roughly to 1162 with 1178 and with some probability in 1163, time when many lords of Fougères crossed. One knows by the Cartulaire de Savigny that itself gave in this time an exemption of toll to Savigny in the grounds of its baronnie. It is still at the time of its departure that it settled a disagreement with the monks of Saint Nicolas's Day, about the cooking of the bread of the parishioners of Azé who lived between Genéteil and the Mayenne. It left them the furnace which his/her father had given them, with permission to carry their bread to his castle on Right Bank and to bring it back to their shop. One does not know at which time he died, and because its successor names Renaud like itself, it is difficult to say with precision the acts which belong to him and those which one must allot to his son. Its burial would have taken place with Saint Nicolas's Day of Angers.
Family
Renaud IV married Béatrix, girl of Rotrou III of the Pole, count of the Perche, and his first wife, which one does not know the name.We owe this information with the Cartulaire of Philippe-Auguste, which reforms all that say Bry of Clergerie, the Père Anselme and the others, which claim that the woman of Renaud IV was girl of Rotrou IV of the Pole, whereas it was grandmother of the bishop of Châlons: Guillaume of the Pole, wire itself of Rotrou IV of the Pole.
The historian of the House of Jaille which names it Renaud V, known as who it was married three times, and it calls upon Cartulaire of Philippe-Auguste, allotting the three marriages of Rotrou III of the Pole to his son-in-law. Rotrou III of the Pole was indeed married initially with an unknown factor which was mother of Renaud V, then with Mathilde, natural girl of Henri Ier of England, king d' Angleterre, died in 1119; and, finally, with Harvise d' Évreux, girl of Gautier d' Évreux and Sibille Chanort, baron of Salisbury, remariée before 1145 with Robert de France, died in 1152.
