Renata Tebaldi

Renata Tebaldi (born the 1922 with Pesaro and dead the December 19th 2004 with San Marino) was large a Soprano Italy.

The largest leaders of his time accompanied it, Arturo Toscanini (which was the first to notice it in 1946), of Sabata, Molinari-Pradelli, Solti, Karajan and Giulini. Its career lasted about thirty years.

Biography

Renata Tebaldi is born from a father violoncellist and a mother nurse. At the three years age, it starts to study the piano at the Music school " Arrigo Boito" of Parma with Giuseppina Passani, then the song as from 1937 with Ettore Campogaliani with the Academy of Mantoue works. It improves then with that of Milan near the soprano Carmen Mélis of 1940 to 1943. In 1944, it makes its first appearance on scene with the municipal Theater of Rovigo in the role of Elena of the Mefistofele of Arrigo Boito. Then, it occurs in Parma then with Trieste ( Otello ) and two years later, whereas it incarnates Elsa in Lohengrin of Wagner, with the Theater of Bologna, it is noticed by the large leader Arturo Toscanini and is committed with the Scala of Milan to sing there, the May 11th 1946, in the honor of the reopening of Scala. She sings there airs of the 3rd act of Manon Lescaut of Puccini and in the Te Deum of Verdi. She appears in this theater of 1949 to 1954 then, of 1958 to 1960 and quickly, universally becomes one of the known first sopranes.

She occurs in 1949 with Lisbon ( Don Giovanni ), in 1950, with the Covent Garden of London ( Otello ) and with the Opéra of San Francisco ( Aïda ). In 1951, she plays the Opéra of Paris and church of the Madeleine ( Jeanne d' Arc of Made green) and makes her beginnings with the Met with New York on January 31st, 1955 in the role of Desdémone, where she will occur regularly until 1973. As from 1956, she also sings with the Opera of Chicago. In Paris, one sees it returning in 1959 ( Aïda ) then in 1960 ( Tosca ) and last once in 1975 to the Espace Cardin for two recitals. Its repertory is vast, but she excels more particularly in the Italian opera: Desdémone ( Otello ), Violetta ( Traviata ), Tosca , Mimi ( Bohemian the ), Mrs Butterfly , Amelia ( a ball masked ), Liù ( Turandot ), Leonore ( the Trouvere ), Elisabeth ( Gift Carlos )…

She also sings Eva in the Masters Singers of Nuremberg (Wagner), Scindia in the King de Lahore of Massenet or Cléopâtre in Giulio Cesare in Egitto of Haendel.

Its immense success near the public comes from its exceptional voice but also from its personality: modest, sincere and determined woman, it can make feel the emotion which must emerge from the role that it incarnates. In 1976, it gives its last concert to Scala, the benefit of the victims of the Earthquake of the the Friuli then, withdraws scene definitively with the aim of preserve its health. She writes a few years later her memories which appear in 1986, presented by the Italian journalist Carlmaria Casanova, under the title of Renata Tebaldi, the voice of angel .

She dies on December 19th, 2004 in San Marino.

The press said of it that it was the large rival of Maria Callas. She had a voice of large lyric soprano to the silky and luminous stamp, of an exceptional width, as well as an irreproachable technique.
