Release-North is the name given to the one of the resistant main movements of French of the occupied Northern zone during the Second world war.
It is one of the eight wide-area networks members of the National council of Resistance (CNR).
History
Initially clandestine newspaper, as of December 1940, Release-North transformed in November 1941 into a resistance movement. Wanting to be the expression of trade-union mobilities CGT not Communist, CFTC and of clandestine SFIO, it was formed around Christian Pineau and of the team of the Manifeste of the twelve . Without being alone, the Socialists are hegemonic in this movement.
In 1942, two resistance networks are created starting from Release-North, under the control of the central Bureau of information and action (BCRA):
- Phalanx, in southern zone, by Christian Pineau,
- and Cohors-Asturies, in northern zone.
It starts to organize armed groups, at the beginning of 1943, under the impulse of the philosopher Jean Cavaillès and the Colonel Zarapoff. Represented with the National council of Resistance, where it relays the influence of the clandestine SFIO, the movement refuses its participation in the WALL in December 1943.
Following the example civil Organization and soldier (OCM), it fails to create, with the SFIO, a great party Travailliste resulting from Resistance.
