Relaxed oscillation
The relaxed oscillation is a mechanical or electric phenomenon. So that relaxed oscillations appear, it is necessary that one has an energy source and something which is opposed to its action. When the constraint becomes too strong, the resistant part yields abruptly, part of energy is evacuated, the constraint grows again and the cycle starts again.
One can illustrate that by a filament of water which fills a container articulated around a horizontal axis. When the container is full, it becomes unstable and is emptied of a blow then returns in place.
In mechanics, the squealings and squeakings are Relaxed oscillations.
In electronics, one can cause relaxed oscillations maintained by charging a Condensateur slowly. When the tension on its terminals reaches a predetermined value a device causes its fast discharge. The first transmitter of Hertz functioned according to this principle. One can also have relaxed oscillations not controlled in the case of Claquage S.
