Reilhanette

Reilhanette is a common French, located in the department of the Drome and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Geography

  • the small village of Reilhanette is built on a hill, overhung of a medieval castle. Not far first are advanced Mont Ventoux, “giant of Provence”.
  • Ventoux itself is furrowed by grinds paths originally created by the soldiers (cf Section History), therefore much do not carry out nowhere, which can make the steps in forest dangerous. On this subject, it is strongly disadvised crossing on the slopes, because of the presence of many not very sure rock bars for the walker. The vegetation is not that of origin: the forest was largely destroyed during the last centuries. One can only greet the enormous work completed by the National office of the forests, which methodically replanted and maintained a new forest pines (note that one still finds some beeches, which a priori belonged to the original forest).

History

  • the historical element most notable concerning the village of Reilhanette is the military base located at the top of the village, in the Ventoux. Indeed, it could have played a significant part during the cold war: it was about an entry on the network of tunnels running under all the area, driving with the Plateau of Albion, where nuclear missiles pointed on Moscow were.

Places and monuments

  • the strong castle or rather its still important ruins dates from the 12th century, its destruction is the fact of the royal troops in 1560, systematic destruction in the area at that time which, curiously, saved the church. The inheritance of the commune is consolidated by the “calades” in the course of repair since ten year. These calades leads to the esplanade of the castle arranged in space scenic and equipped with an exceptional sight on the hills of the plain of Montbrun-Reilhanette and the buttresses of the Ventoux mount.
  • the church is also 12th century, its structure is thus Romance with a nave in broken cradle. Its height with the top of the Master furnace bridge is astonishing for a building of this type. It underwent of course some rehandlings but not major destruction. One describes it to us in 1599 “in strong good state, closed well and furnished with all that is necessary”. Altered with the Counter-Reformation, it is equipped with three furnace bridges baroques. Vis-a-vis the entry: the furnace bridge of saint Eutrope owner of “estropiés” presents a reliquary containing a fragment of radius of the saint. It was - said one of a great effectiveness since a register started in 1698 reports very many miracles, the last are announced in 1856.
