Reignat is a common French, located in the department of the Puy-de-Dôme and the area of Auvergne. Reignat belongs to the urban surface of Clermont-Ferrand.
With the the Middle Ages, the multiplication of the defensive systems of various types (farmyard of the Castle, reduced strengthened, pregnant villagers) because one long period of insecurity related amongst other things to the War One hundred Year old, results in to create, in the center of many villages, a core at the houses tightened, separated by narrow lanes so as not to lose of place and to allow the greatest number of people possible to find a refuge there.
The Peace returned, the fort lost its defensive vocation first. Important installations gave him an agricultural specialization and wine until these last years.
Districts of this type (often called " forts villageois") constitute still today a feature characteristic of many boroughs auvergnats.
