Reichshoffen

Reichshoffen is a common French, located in the north of the department of the the Low-Rhine and the area Alsace. Its inhabitants is called Reichshoffenois and Reichshoffenoise.

Geography

History

The city comprises some medieval vestiges (turns and ramparts as well as houses with wood side dating from the 16th century), the Saint-Michel church whose bell-tower is 72 meters high (built in 1772) and the castle of the Famille DE DIETRICH. But the celebrity of this city holds especially with the battles known as of Reichshoffen.

November 1st, 1972 the commune amalgamates with Nehwiller-près-Wœrth.

Economy

Among the companies installed in this commune, Alstom manufactures part of TGV and takes part in the restoration of the rolling stock of the SNCF. Manufacture of more than 300 rail-cars ATER X73000 more than 300 trailers of the rail-car AGC, manufacture of new the Tram of Strasbourg

Places and monuments

  • the Vault of Pilgrimage to the Virgin and Holy Wolfgang, with the locality Wohlfahrtshoffen . The Gothic chorus arched warheads would date from the 14th century, as well as the Sacristie from which the interior door is however dated 1770. The neo-gothic Nef was rebuilt in 1851. An inscription in German on the door external of the sacristy commemorates its enlarging and embellishment by the priest Lehmann de Reichshoffen in 1852. Beside the vault the house of the guards is located, probably built in second half of the 18th century. In front of the vault a monumental cross gone back to 1812 draws up.

  • a first castle is built in 1232 for the duke of Lorraine. He is entrusted after 1286 to the counts of Ochsenstein and is demolished in 1769. He comprised a flanked roughly circular enclosure of four round towers. The current castle is built for Jean DE DIETRICH (1719 - 1795) by Joseph Massol, Architecte Strasbourg eois. The carcass work is set up of 1770 with 1771 under the direction of Christian Gstyr. On the south-eastern attic window before the war the inscription now disappeared was: IFD HANVER 1779 . Towards 1807, Mathieu de Favier removes the body of passage which connected the commun runs to north; the wing is commun runs is demolished by of Bussière in 1811 and in 1812, the western wing remains partly, completely refitted. The castle, seriously damaged during the last war was carefully restored. It is used now as administrative seat with the Société DE DIETRICH. One of the turns of the old castle which had remained is rebuilt in 1807 to be used as hydraulic elevator. In northern limit of the park are located agricultural dependences and an old house of gardener under roof with croups already being reproduced on the cadrastal map Napoleon IEN towards 1840.
