Regulate phases

The rule of the phases gives the Variance of a system Thermodynamique. It is expressed by:

$v\; =\; C\; +\; 2\; -\; \backslash \; varphi\; ~$

• $C\; ~$ is equal to the number of pure involved substances to which one removes the number of independent chemical reactions connecting these pure substances.

• $\backslash \; varphi\; ~$ is the number of phases present in the system.

History

One owes the rule of the phases to the American physicist Josiah Gibbs. It besides is sometimes called the “relation of Gibbs”.
