Registrar
A registrar ( registry office in French but this term is not very used) is a company or an association allowing the deposit of domain names Internet, in the TLD where there are no direct sales.
The registrar is in direct contact with the final customer. It was registered near various the registers according to the extensions which it wishes to market (it pays for that a yearly rental). Moreover, with each time a domain name is deposited, the registrar reverse with the register responsible for the extension deposited (cf Top Level Domain) a sum (in general fixes). The same applies to each transfer or renewal of domain name. These rules are valid to date (2006) but could be seen modified in the future.
These rules depend in addition enormously on the TLD, each one having its own price policy, of conditions, etc Certains registers do not make pass from procedure of accreditation like AFNIC. On the contrary, the TLD managed by the government of the United States, like .com , oblige their registrars to be made accredit by ICANN and the register. The list of the registrars of a TLD is in general on the Web site of the register.
The registrar is responsible for the maintenance of its database of the domain names lodged with him, as of the update of the base of the registers with the waiters of name of the field. On this update depends the accessibility of the waiters of a field by their name (thanks to DNS).
