Register of language
the language is a system of signs (words, gestures) which makes it possible to establish a communication.
A register of language (one says also register , or, style ) is a mode of expression adapted to a situation of particular stating, who determines in particular, certain lexical choices and syntactic, a certain tone, as well as a more or less great freedom compared to the rules of a given language.
Indeed, one expresses in a different way according to whether one addresses to familiar, with an unknown, a child, an hierarchically superior, and according to his age, his social environment, his cultural level. In other words, one does not speak always in the same way and one adapts his manner of expressing oneself with the circumstances. This adaptation is carried out with more or less flexibility and success according to the age, the experiment, the instruction, the professional level and the diversity of the mediums in which one evolves/moves.
There exists a downward gradation between the 3 principal registers of language: constant register , register running and familiar register . In addition, certain choices, unacceptable with the writing, can be tolerated with the oral examination.
