Regional natural park of the Mounts of Ardeche
The project of Regional natural park of the Mounts of Ardeche was born in 1992 on the initiative of the castanéiculteurs - the producers of Châtaigne S. the Park was officialized 9 years later.
The identity of the Mounts of Ardèche is based on strong common characteristics: rural landscapes, know-how, the volcanicity, rivers, productions of Bilberry S and sweet chestnuts, religious history, mills and Grinding S, the Terrace S, etc
The Park was created in order to preserve and develop the richnesses common to the Mounts of Ardeche, while emphasizing the local characteristics. Because the Park posts quite different faces: between the Boutières (zone of the catchment area of the valley of the Eyrieux), volcanic Juices of the solid mass of the Mézenc, the plate of Vernoux, High Cévenne - which correspond to the central part of the Park, Cevennes Piedmont - which borders the Park of Aubenas to the Vans, and Cévenne Southerner in the South.
The territory of the Mounts of Ardeche presented successfully its candidature for obtaining the label “regional natural park”. The decree of the Prime Minister signed on April 9th, 2001, officialized the creation of the Park thus making it possible to join together funds for the project of 10 year old territory to come.
