Regional natural park of the Moors of Gascogne

The regional natural park of the Moors of Gascogne is a Regional natural park French in area Aquitaine.

Geography

Located at horse between the departments of the Moors and the the Gironde, in the Moors of Gascogne, the natural park of the Moors extends from the Bassin of Arcachon in Pays of Buch, follows the valleys of the Grande Leyre and the Petite Leyre, and finds its limits with those of the Large-Moor.

The house of the park is located at Belin-Béliet.

History

The natural park of the Moors was created by the decree of the October 16th 1970. Renewal: decree of the June 29th 1994 and decree of the July 17th 2000.

Its creation expressed the will of the community to protect and emphasize a rich natural environment but nevertheless vulnerable. In the spirit of what guides the action of the Regional natural parks of France, it leads with the population and the communities which compose it a mission of safeguarding of the inheritance, of balanced development of the economic activities, sensitizing of public to their environment by waking up the curiosity of the host and the inhabitant.

It thus opened tourism of discovery. Each one of its equipment offers a way to return in the history of this country and to include/understand the charm of the Moors of Gascogne.

It gathers 48.000 inhabitants out of 300.000 hectares. Its territory corresponds to the densest part of the Gascon main forest.

Statute

Mixed trade-union of territorial collectivities including/understanding: representatives of the Aquitaine region and the Regional Economic and Social Council of Aquitaine, the departments of the Gironde and the Moors, the towns of Bordeaux and Mount-with-Marsan, and of SIVOM of the Valleys of the Leyre (Moors) and of the Valley of Eyre (the Gironde) gathering the 41 communes of the Park. That is to say an assembly deliberating on 45 members.
