Regional natural park of French Gâtinais

Located at the south of the Ile-de-France, the site called " country of the thousand clearings and the sandstone " is, since the May 4th 1999 classified " Regional natural park " , thanks to the will of the communes, of the general advices of the the Essonne and the Seine-et-Marne, the district council of Ile-de-France, the State and the local actors.

The regional natural park of the Gâtinais French has the role of combining safeguarding of the inheritances naturalness and cultural, economic development and social and maintenance of quality of life. A balance impossible to circumvent for a sustainable development.

Description

The park extends on 63.700 hectares, covers 57 communes (28 in the Essonne and 29 in Seine-et-Marne) and 7 " communes; associées" representing 72.411 inhabitants. The boroughs and the villages were established mainly in the valleys and on the edges of the plates; the latter are inhabited generally little. The average density of population is of 100 habitants/km ². An important core of population is in the center of the Park, around Milly-the-Forest. 12 communes exceed the 2.000 inhabitants and 17 count some less than 500.

The engagement of the signatories

In accordance with the law of January 8th, 1993 on protection and the development of the landscapes, the signatories of the Charter are required to respect the orientations of them and to apply the measures to the exercise of their competences. In particular the documents of town planning of the local government agencies must be compatible with the Charter. In the contrary case, they must be revised. Besides the Park accompanies the Communes in these steps.

The action of the Park also made it possible to emphasize local agroalimentary productions like the peppered Menthe, the cress and the Miel, all labelized " Mark Parc".
