Regional Establishment of adapted education
The EREA ( Regional Establishment of Teaching Adapted ) are governed by the circular n° 95-127 of May 17th, 1995. These establishments are the heirs to the “autonomous Schools of Improvement”, created by the article first of the law of 1909, at the same time as the classes of improvement. They are adapted schools, and not of the médico-educational establishments. Their current mission is to allow “teenagers in difficulty or having handicaps to work out their project of orientation and formation like their project of professional insertion and social according to their aspirations and their capacities”. There exist some EREA directed towards the sensorimotor Handicap S, but the majority accommodate young people in very great school difficulty. The teachers are professors of the titular schools of CAPA-SH option F (except EREA sensorimotor handicaps), of the Professors of Vocational school (PLP), of Professors de Technologie of College (PLC) and of the Professors of Physical education and Sportive. The circular of 1995 envisaged a change of name: the EREA were to become Colleges of Adapted Teaching (LEA). New name is still not very used.
