Regina Maria Rock

Regina Maria Roche (1764 - 1845) is an English novelist.

She is regarded today as a minor novelist, author of Romance Gothics which do not enjoy the popularity of those of Ann Radcliffe. It is to off forget that it was an author with success and that its third novel, The Children the Abbey , was in its time as popular as the Mystères of Udolphe .

The Children off the Abbey is a sentimental Gothic novel with an intrigue in love. Clermont is the only novel in which Roche is obligation to follow the rules of the Gothic kind, and it contains elements indeed much closer to the novel of horror than its other works, with a persecuted heroin, a father with the mysterious past that an unknown threatens to reveal if tender heroin refuses to marry it, of the brigands, of violence, a Gothic crypt. The two novels last being republished several times and were translated into French and Spanish. Clermont is one of the novels that Jane Austen satirical parody in way in Northanger Abbey .
