Regiment of the knight-guards
The knight-guards are a unit of cavalry of the Russian imperial Garde, made only of noble, and which recruits the great names of the aristocracy of Russia.
Creations
- 1724 : creation of a unit of escort of Catherine I {{Re}}, made of noble, and named the Knights Guards.
- Of 1724 to 1740: reformations at the time of crownings, dissolution then
- 1742: the knight-guards form a company of cavalry, integrated into the Régiment Preobrajenski. Under the reign of Catherine II, they are assigned to the guard of the palate
- 1799: the January 11th the unit becomes permanent under the name of Guard-of-Body (= Kavalergardia )
- 1800: the January 11th, the unit becomes the regiment of the Knight-Guards with 3 squadrons
- Starting from 1805: many knights about Malta takes service in the knight-guards
- 1881: the March 2nd the empress Maria Feodorovna , wife of Alexandre III of Russia, is named commander-in-chief of the regiment
- 1894: the November 2nd, the unit is famous: regiment of the Knight-Guards of Its Majesty the Empress

December 2nd 1805: charge with Austerlitz ordered by the prince Repnine: the squadron is destroyed by a against-load of the pomegranates to horse and Mamelouks of the imperial Garde of the general Rapp, and Repnine is made prisoner.

The knight-guards had their barracks with Saint-Pétersbourg, as well as a boulevard.
As from 1826, their walk is the white Dame , of François Adrien Boieldieu (white lady meaning Knife in their slang).
Regimental characteristics
The volunteers were themselves to be of high size , fair and without barb and to have the blue eyes .
The color of the dress of the horses depended on the squadron to which they belonged:
- 1° squadron : wrap clear bay;
- 2° squadron : wrap more marked bay with spots;
- 3° squadron : wrap more marked bay without spots;
- 4° squadron : wrap black bay;
- mountings of the Trompettes had a gray dress.
Regimental rewards

Flag: flag of Saint-Georges, with streamers of the jubilee of Saint-Andrew carrying the inscription: " To be itself distinguished by beating and driving out out of Russia the enemy in 1812 ". This distinction was granted to him to the battle of Borodino.
